Artist Statement About the Artwork:

Before I started losing my sight, I loved to sketch, loved to put pencil to paper and discover deeper ways of experiencing the view before my eyes. Over time, as my vision eroded, I gave up sketching. In fits of anger, I torched my art supplies and relished the heat of the flames. I returned to my old sketches to mar them, blotting out what I could no longer see. And that’s when I saw that the loss made my work better, more compelling, more complete. More honest. More me.
